For many years we had been trying to find a place my daughter feels comfortable to workout in. We were looking for a trainer who would connect with her personally, be a person who would push her, and a person who would build her confidence. That trainer entered our lives many years ago, and we did not realize that until last May.
It was during a conversation at a softball game that I heard Sam Robbins was training other athletes. Over the years, as a coach, I had watched Sam build great relationships with the athletes and coaches. She would go above and beyond her job title to help each athlete and the others she worked with. I was highly impressed and decided to inquire about the workouts.
When I started to ask Sam questions, I came to the realization within a minute, that Sam would be the one to work with my daughter, and Sara agreed full heartedly. Sam had presented the idea that each athlete would be trained for his or her specific sport. In the offseason they would work on strength training, aerobic and anaerobic training, and mental training. Each leading to the athlete to become physically fit and stronger mentally in preparing for the sport they played.
Once we agreed to work with Sam, it changed my daughter’s life forever. Sam developed a very close relationship with Sara, yet did not let the relationship affect her ability to push my daughter to do her best. She also began to truly teach Sara what it meant to be physically fit and healthy (I have been taking many notes).
Over the last 8 months, I have watched my daughter grow in self-confidence, become stronger both mentally and physically and have watched her develop leadership skills. My daughter is now asking herself whether she could actually play her favorite sport in college. If it was not for Sam I do not believe Sara would be at this point in her life, and she is only sixteen.
What has impressed me the most is that Sam has not only influenced Sara within her sport, she has made her more prepared to deal with life. Sara watched as Sam left her job and risked starting her own business. This allowed my daughter to realize there are times in life in which you have to take a risk to be successful. I now see that in school and the relationships she builds with friends. I have also seen Sara’s work ethic become very strong, as she gets ready for the next step in life.
If it was not for Sam Robbins, I do not believe my daughter would be who she is today. Sam has had such a great impact on her, that I believe she will be part of our lives for a very long time.
Thank you Sam, for everything you have done for Sara!

Sam is special. She not only trains my daughters physically, in a group, she is careful to build a relationship with each one as an individual so she can work on their specific needs. They are two different types of athletes with two different strengths and weakness. Sam can pin point those needs and with a “subtle” push can achieve their goals. She is able to adapt workouts to meet the changes necessary to accommodate injury, joint disorders and other physical setbacks. Sam is a ball of energy and she feeds her clients with it until they are ignited.

Training at DYS has completely changed the way I think about fitness. Before I arrived at DYS just about a year and a half ago, I strictly believed that fitness was “going to the gym”. After endless amount of hours in and out of DYS, my view of fitness has shifted to the idea of: strength based training, mobility, and most importantly RECOVERY. I have never felt more comfortable with my overall health than I have ever before.
